Denise Marcil is owner of Denise Marcil Literary Agency, LLC and vice-president of Marcil-O’Farrell Literary, LLC, representing commercial fiction and nonfiction. Her authors’ books have appeared on national bestseller lists including The New York Times, USA Today, the Washington Post, and the Los Angeles Times. She has launched the careers of authors whose works have been honored with nominations for the Pulitzer Prize and have won RITAs and Shamus awards for Best First Novel. She has built the brands of such authors as Dr. William Sears, America’s pediatrician, whom Time called “the man who remade motherhood,” and New York Times #1 bestseller Sherryl Woods.
Ms. Marcil now represents new clients’ self-help and practical nonfiction titles under Marcil-O’Farrell Literary, LLC, which she founded with Anne Marie O’Farrell in 2008, and she encourages these authors to stretch their wings sometimes beyond their comfort zones. She represents upmarket commercial women’s fiction and literary suspense and thrillers.
Named one of Glamour magazine’s Top Ten Outstanding Young Working Women, Ms. Marcil has been interviewed in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, the New Yorker, Business Week, Working Woman, and more and was featured in the PBS program, “Working Women.” Ms. Marcil has served on the board of directors of the Association of Authors’ Representatives (AAR) as Literary Vice President, and is a member of the AAR’s Royalties Committee, as well as the Women’s Media Group (WMG) and the Agents Round Table.
